The Ultimate Chromatist Fashion Statement

Weekend is here and so is our blog for week 4. Let’s have some insights into one of the most Instagrammable trend of the season, “The Rainbow Trend”.
Let’s start with a question.
What’s your favourite colour?
Hard to choose?
Well, then this trend suits you the best!
This season no need to choose, the trend says go with the multi-colour curve. It is every pop of colors, you probably need in your life right now!

Brighter days are on the horizon, and we’re hue for it. (See what I did there?)
Since last spring, we started seeing how the rainbow fashion trend started becoming widely popular. This year, this trend returns for a second round, and we are not complaining.

If you’ve been on Instagram, shopping online, following bloggers, obsessing over fashion weeks lately; you would be seeing so many of the rainbow patterned items hitting the fashion world by storm! Call us insane but someday we wake up and would want to rock every colour of the rainbow.

From 70s inspired tees to technicolour skirts to statement making striped dresses, it’s a full-on spectrum this season. You could colour yourself in every colour of the ROYGBIV, spread the positivity around, and remind yourself that after the storm comes a calm. Wearing this trend gives an immediate energy with the burst of colours, and we cannot keep our hands off of the very amazing, quirky, and the colourful fashion and lifestyle items this trend has to offer us. The alternatives are infinite, if you are the crazy one, maybe Shower in all the colours; or if you want to be sophisticated but still follow the colour wheel, you can opt for subtly coloured logos and stripes.

WHY IS IT EVERYWHERE?

The rich history behind the rainbow started from the iconic Rainbow sandals made by Salvatore Ferragamo for Judy Garland in 1930s to sequinned mini-dress, or from the swinging 6os to Alexander McQueen’s colourful gowns on the runways. The love for colour exploded during Spring/Summer 2016 runways and is now about to invade and conquer our personal styles and taste.
This trend has appeared in collections from independent brands to the biggest players, including Balenciaga, Gucci, D&G, and Burberry among others.

At the 2018 Met Gala, Lena Waithe stole the show in a Carolina Herrera Cape that vibrantly and unequivocally referred to the LGBTQ pride flag, the rainbow’s most prominent cultural association. Even this year’s met Gala had a bunch of celebrity’s seen celebrating colours. Talking about the runways we can’t forget Dior’s 2019 spring/summer haute couture’s sheer rainbow-stripped playsuit which was later worn by the British model Cara Delevigne at the annual fashion juggernaut in the name of Met Gala, in New York.

POWERFUL INFLUENCES

One of the main reasons why the rainbow fashion trend has been getting more popular than ever during recent years is because of the various meaning attached to it. For many, the use of these colour works as a statement supporting the LGBTQ+ community. While for others, this is a clear representation of the “Kidulting” movement that these colours inspire.

Inclusivity has been a recurring theme lately, whether it is weight, embracing imperfections, Skin Colour and the choice of gender.

Good fashion is always a reflection of the times and it was proved right when ‘The Pride Movement’ became an inspiration for rainbow dressing.

One of the most influential facts being the legalisation of the section 377, which further led to the celebration of love, liberation and a riot of colours on the streets. With happy faces and bodies swaying to drum beats, rainbow revellers took over the heart of Delhi and celebrated ‘pride’. The parade occurs worldwide in June, also this is the time ROYBGIV spreads strongest in the entire year.

The ‘Kidulting’ is real!

The connection between the colours of rainbow and the kids’ market seems be quite strong. Candy, Clothing, cereal and toys have a substantial relation the world of childhood as compared to adulthood; resulting into people assumably feeling attracted to wear the rainbow as a statement of innocence or perhaps, nostalgia. Whatever the case maybe our inner child is still happy with these small decisions taken by our heart.
The “Kidulting” movement, nonetheless incorporates a broader range of behaviour that adults are embracing more each day. Our never ending love for ice-creams, stickers and animated series is another addition to this movement, which is also gaining popularity increasingly.
Similarly, our love for ‘Rainbow Fashion’ might be immerging from the same place, who knows? Let’s not waste our time concerning about it and enjoy the colourful surprise.
