Buoyancy of Fanny Packs: passé, présent, futur

Hey Folks! We know, we know fanny pack has been a part of our fanny, our shoulders, our waist – styling it in varied ways since its re-inception (as we would call it) in 2018, why not just dive a little deep and see how they came into being and then as a fashion statement (we mean before they lost their popularity by the end of the 90’s).

Well, the term associated with them during their fall was – “mirth” but never mind as Joker says, “It’s a comedy” (our life). Coming back to the point, the bag emerged in the public sight after an advertisement by ‘Sports Illustrated’ which stated the bag under 50 Ideas for Christmas gifts – a lightweight feather fanny pack to hold a cross-country skier’s wax and lunch.

Following the 1980s saw a wave of athleisure – our very own comfy and chic clothing and fanny pack or bum bag or belt bag/waist bag was cherry on the top. But by 1991, they became pervasive, and became logo-slathered giveaway products.

Going back to the roots, a cavemen – 5300 year old mummy, Otzi, the Iceman was found the same year having a leather satchel. And let’s just not forget the sassy, on fleek and the royal Edwardian and Victorian era where chatelaines were used by women to carry the must-haves.

And at present, Messieurs and Mademoiselles! We carry it like a pro – be it at a party, at a high end event or even for a casual outing. But what about ‘l’avenir’, future we mean. 2018-19 had a myopic vision about the bum bags – well, they could have been a bummer had they not been taken up by the fashion brands on runway – Chanel, Gucci, Marc Jacobs.

As we all know fam, how functional and aesthetically appealing they are, the industry is in no mood to waste its revival, yes, so dropping a bomb here they will continue to be our appendage in 2020 as well but with just a little variation. Don’t worry, we are going to reveal that too!

Following the genre of camp and kitsch they are going to be playful and gender neutral. Drawstrings, chain straps, multi-pockets or vertical orientations are something new we all might see.
